Placing Layers Together For Quilting
It is easier to assemble your layers ready for quilting if you have allowed a few
inches extra on all sides of the backing fabric and the wadding. This is also vital as a
certain shrinkage inevitably happens during the quilting process.
The backing fabric should be smoothed out on a flat surface with its wrong side upwards.
On to this place the wadding - another pair of hands to help at this stage can be an
advantage as you do not want to move the carefully positioned backing fabric.
Now take the quilt top with its right side upwards and centralise it on the other two.
Before you start pinning or tacking in position take care to ensure that there is wadding
and backing extra on all four sides.
Starting from the centre and placing the pins where they will not interfere with your
stitching, carefully work outwards so that the layers are all held firmly to allow you to
start your quilting stitches with confidence.
